In Roman mythology, Pallas is the counterpart of the Greek goddess Athena, also known as Minerva (93). According to the myth, Athena resided in Zeus' head, causing him tremendous pain. To alleviate his suffering, Zeus had his skull opened, and Athena was born. From that point forward, she became the goddess of wisdom and just warfare, always accompanied by her companion, Nike, the goddess of victory. In Roman mythology, Pallas is regarded as the daughter of Triton. An interesting anecdote reveals that during a contest with a girl named Pallas, Zeus accidentally caused her demise. As a tribute, Athena/Minerva took on the name Pallas.

Pallas holds the distinction of being the second asteroid ever discovered. Initially mistaken for a comet, it was later classified (alongside Ceres, Vesta, and Juno) as a "minor planet." Pallas boasts an orbit and inclination that are remarkably high in relation to its size.
