Myth:
Asclepius is the son of Apollo, the god of healing, medicine, and prophecy. His mother, depending on the version of the myth, was either some bitch named Coronis or a nymph named Arsinoe. He was raised however by the centaur Chiron (2060), also known as the wounded healer. Under Chiron's watch Asclepius acquired an exceptional understanding of herbs, medicines, and the art of healing.
Legend has it that homedude was so skilled that he could resurrect the dead. This extraordinary power, however, this pissed off Hades, the god of the underworld. Hades feared that the souls of the deceased would no longer enter his realm if Asclepius continued to bring them back to life. In response, the gods nerfed him, via lightning strike.
Fun Fact:
After Zeus offed his ass he immortalized Asclepius in the form of a constellation. This constellation is actually that fucking annoying ass Ophiuchus constellation that people never shut the fuck up about.
Ancient Greeks actually used to pray to him before preforming operations as well.
